Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) members who currently have coverage under the plan need to renew their coverage before June 1, 2025.
You can renew your coverage for the upcoming 2025 to 2026 period, after you have filed your 2024 tax return and received the notice of assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan was introduced December 2023 and is currently available to seniors 55+ and children under 18 and those 18-55 who qualify for the Disability Tax Credit (administered by CRA Canada Revenue Agency).
During the month of May 2025, the rest of us can apply; more info below.
The CDCP provides coverage for those without access to dental insurance and who have a family income of under $90,000.
2024 Notice of Assessment
You can only renew (or apply) once you have filed your taxes and CRA has issued the 2024 Notice of Assessment.
Most taxpayers receive their CRA notices by regular mail. Many taxpayers have signed up for online mail only and will need to access their notice via CRA My Account.
But if you filed your taxes more than three weeks ago and you have still not received the notice via regular mail or online, you will need to contact CRA to find out if the notice was issued and how you can get a copy.
Renew by June 1 2025
In order to continue your coverage for the new coverage period, July 1 2025 to June 30 2026, you must renew by June 1 2025, to avoid any gaps. If you renew after June 1, there may be a month or two without coverage until you do renew your coverage.
If you are currently covered under the CDCP, you will need to renew your coverage each year to confirm that you continue to meet all eligibility requirements. CRA needs to confirm your family income is still under $90,000 and that you still do not have access to an employer or pension sponsored dental plan or a private plan.
It is easy to renew online, just search Canada Dental Plan.
If you can’t renew online, you may renew by phone through an automated self-serve system by calling 1-833-537-4342, select your preferred language, then press 2. For TTY call 1-833-677-6262. You can also call these numbers to request alternative formats such as large print, Braille, E-Text, audio/video, and DAISY.
